The Agency for Science, Technology and Research is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore.
The agency supports R&D that is aligned to areas of competitive advantage and national needs for Singapore. These span the four technology domains of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME), Health and Biomedical Sciences (HBMS), Urban Solutions and Sustainability (USS), and Services and Digital Economy (SDE) set out under the nation’s five-year R&D plan.
The agency’s research institutes are located mostly in Biopolis and Fusionopolis. The total strength of the A*STAR community, including scientists and researchers, technical and non-technical staff, and industry development and commercialization staff was 5,400.
A department of A*STAR called the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) is focused on Human Genetics, Infectious Diseases, Cancer Therapeutics and Stratified Oncology, Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology, Cancer Stem Cell Biology, Computational and Systems Biology research.
The Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR) Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) has adopted BeeGFS file system for their 288TB 15K SAS File System using the Dell PowerEdge R740. GIS is using InfiniBand FDR as the interconnect and 15K SAS drives. With BeeGFS A*STAR is able to fully utilize the bandwith made availble by the high speed InfiniBand interconnect.

Pacific Teck worked together with A*STAR to design the storage system. Pacific Teck provided installation services on-site in Singapore. Our engineers worked with A*STAR to get the environment ready, conducted the installation and provided training on how to use the system. Pacific Teck is A*STAR’s first point of contact for post-sales support.
